Olympic Games Closing Ceremony highlights – incl. Spice Girls performance!

After two weeks of spectacular medal wins by Team GB, the 2012 Olympic Games were closed with a 3 hour spectacular entitled “A Symphony of British Music”. The eclectic line-up featured Emeli Sande, Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Annie Lennox, One Direction, Jessie J, Taio Cruz, Tinie Tempah, Take That, Queen, Beady Eye, Muse and The Who, but our highlight of the night was of course the Spice Girls.

The feisty five reunited for the first time since 2008 to perform their signature hits Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life, before customised black cabs whisked them around the stadium for a victory lap.

George Michael is back with ‘White Light’ music video

Following his brush with death after contracting pneumonia earlier this year, George Michael is back with a new single titled ‘White Light‘. His single features lyrics such as “I’m back, prouder than ever baby, louder than ever maybe”.

In the video we see the former Wham-star nearly die, but his guardian angel, played by super model Kate Moss, brings him back to life at the flick of a coin.

Apparently the Wham! reunion rumours are untrue, but we do know that George Michael today decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Wham Rap!’ by premiering his new single ‘White Light’.

‘White Light‘ received its first (truncated) play on Heart FM, with George tweeting shortly afterwards, ‘Morning….hope your happy with it….by the way, the single is way longer than the couple of minutes they played on Heart. Such is life :)’

George Michael surprised fans in Prague this week with a cover of Rihanna’s menacing ballad ‘Russian Roulette‘. George’s introduction is slightly odd, but he does a good job of hitting the notes Rihanna has been known to struggle with. Maybe it’s time for a duet from this unlikely pair?

Most of us will celebrate the royal wedding with cupcakes and bunting, but George Michael has taken his excitement one step further by releasing a cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘You and I’ in honour of Kate ‘n’ Wills’ big day. What a nice gesture.

The days are dark and the weather is miserable, so what better way to cheer youself up than with some joyous Yuletide tunes?

Why not start off the Christmas frenzy with the undeniable star atop 2009′s tree: Lady GaGa. Yes, we know she released ‘Christmas Tree’ last year, but that was before the whole world fell in love with her. And even better, it’s a free download (US only) this time around.

The Killers have also caught the festive bug again – they’re releasing a charity Christmas song for the fourth year running. Check out the video for ‘Happy Birthday Guadalupe‘, the proceeds from which will go towards RED Product (tying in nicely with yesterday’s World AIDS day commemorations).

We’re not finished yet! Here is George Michael‘s xmas single, ‘December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas)‘, which was first made available as a free download last year (but kind of late: Christmas day).

His record label must have realised its potential as they’ll be releasing it as a single this year (on December 13, 2009 to be exact).

New Christmas song by George Michael (free download)

George Michael has written and self-produced a new Christmas tune, ‘December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)’.

While not exactly as memorable as ‘Last Christmas’ – what is? - it’s a decent effort that reminds us of his ‘Older’ days. The song was recorded for US TV show ‘Eli Stone’, in which Michael has a recurring cameo role.

The song can be downloaded for free from Michael’s official website and other digital stores on Christmas Day (that’s the 25th December…).
