It looked as if Leighton Meester‘s debut album had been shelved indefinitely after her singles ‘Somebody To Love‘ and ‘Your Love’s A Drug‘ failed on the charts, but she’s still working on new material and recently recorded a club track with DJ Clinton Sparks entitled Front Cut.

Leighton Meester premieres Country Strong video ‘Summer Girl’

It fills our heart with sadness that Leighton Meester‘s electro-pop album never saw the light of day, but we’re holding out hope that her new movie Country Strong will be a massive success and therefore force someone to release the aforementioned lost masterpiece.

In the meantime, fans of the Gossip Girl star can enjoy her new country direction – she’s made a video for ‘Summer Girl‘, which features on the Country Strong soundtrack.

Leighton Meester (a.k.a. Gossip Girl‘s conniving Blair Waldorf) was supposed to release her electro-pop album last year, but the record appears to have been shelved despite two well-received (by us) singles, ‘Somebody To Love‘ and ‘Your Love Is A Drug‘.

Anyway – Leighton returned to acting and picked up a supporting role in the movie Country Strong. As the film concerns a washed-up country star (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), Leighton got to contribute vocals to ‘Words I Couldn’t Say‘ to the soundtrack.

Stephen Jerzak ft. Leighton Meester 'She Said'

Hooray, new Leighton Meester! Well – not really, but it’s nice to hear her guesting on someone else’s track seeing as her own musical career seems to have stalled somewhat.

The track in question is Stephen Jerzak‘s ‘She Said’. It’s a nice little dance number, and if we were pushed to describe it we’d say his vocals are like a less obnoxious 3OH!3 (hopefully that won’t send you running for the hills.) The sound is very of-the-moment, and Jerzak has that emo/Bieberfied hair helmet that is apparently mandatory for all young men these days. *is old*

We’ve been following the burgeoning pop career of Gossip Girl‘s Leighton Meester for some time now – and her latest leak ‘Your Love’s A Drug‘ sounds absolutely lovely.
And no, it’s nothing like ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ by Ke$ha, or ‘Like A Drug’ by Kylie. Apparently the pop world is experiencing some kind of title-drought at the moment (we must have missed the memo.)

Leighton Meester does Christmas

‘Tis that time of year when the same ubiquitous Christmas songs are dusted off and played to death absolutely everywhere, so thank Santa that Leighton Meester decided to bring something semi-new to the table.

The effortlessly cool Gossip Girl star has recorded a charity cover of Darlene Love’s Motown classic ‘Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)’, and as you’d expect her melancholy take is rather more restrained than the original. (FYI, Mariah Carey also had a stab at it once.)

Leighton Meester keeps surprising us with her unusual guest appearances. On Saturday she joined indie band Weezer on stage during their Halloween concert at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Leighton and Rivers Cuomo shared the lines on Weezer’s new single ‘(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To‘. What do you guys think of her performance?

We expected a slushy ballad when Leighton Meester tweeted that she was teaming up with Robin Thicke for her debut solo single. But hey presto, our favourite Gossip Girl has recorded yet another dance floor stonker (make sure to check out Body Control and Cobra Starship’s Good Girls Go Bad if you haven’t already done so.)

We’re loving the sound of this ice-cool electroclash duet, though Thicke’s blatant Timberlake-isms are slightly grating.

MTV gets a lot of stick for not showing enough music videos, but there’s no denying they put on amazing award shows with the best talent, production, hosts and build-up campaigns.

We love this West Side Story-themed promo for September’s VMA Awards, which features an all singing, all dancing cast of stars – keep your eyes peeled for Cobra Starship, Leighton Meester, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Russell Brand and Taylor Swift.

Can’t wait for the actual show, which will also feature Pink, Muse and Lady GaGa. Bring on September 13th – and let’s hope GaGa sweeps the board.
