Melanie C‘s new album of musical covers, ‘Stages’, is out now. The album includes ‘I Know Him So Well’, a duet with fellow Spice Girl Emma Bunton. The original is taken from the concept album/musical ‘Chess’, written by Tim Rice and ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

A new Spice Girls album might not be on the cards any time soon, but bandmates Melanie C and Emma Bunton did team up for a duet. The song is a cover of ‘I Know Him So Well‘, originally from the musical Chess, and is taken from Melanie’s upcoming album ‘Stages‘, a collection of songs from the theatre that have been important to Melanie at various stages of her life.

‘Stages’ is out 9th September 2012.

Melanie C’s new album ‘The Sea‘ is out this week, hence the following performance of her rather catchy single ‘Think About It‘ on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

When former Spice Girl Melanie C said her new album would be more pop and dance-oriented, she wasn’t lying. While her 1999 debut album ‘Northern Star’ was a big success, subsequent (rockier) albums failed to make the same chart impact.

Her new single however is very in keeping with the radio friendly sound by the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson. ‘Think About It‘ is the second single from Melanie’s 5th album ‘The Sea‘, which will be available for purchase from 4th September.

In a recent Q&A session on her website she said:

“I really feel this could be the best album of my career. I’ve worked with great writers, got fantastic songs and I’m really excited about the production. After working in the theatre my voice is in pretty good shape and following a long break after having my little girl and my theatre run, I’ve been feeling even more inspired.” {Source}

The album features collaborations from Cutfather, Jodie Harsh, Adam & Martin Brammer, Ina Wrolsden and Jez Ashurst.

‘Rock Me’ will soundtrack this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, but no UK release is planned as yet.

After releasing a few indie-rock albums over the years, former Spice Girl, Melanie C has decided to go back to a more commercial, dance-oriented sound she showcased on ‘I Turn To You‘ back in the day.

The first single to be lifted from her forthcoming fifth album, will be ‘Rock Me‘. The energetic track is being used by German TV channel ZDF for the coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup – which takes place in Germany this summer.

For now the single only has a release date in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the 24th June.
