We Are The World 2010
The UK’s charity song had a fairly impressive list of singers, but the Americans just dialed it up a few notches with their Haiti earthquake relief charity single ‘We Are The World‘. The new version of the song features 75(ish) people! And to top it all off, the original was released 25 years ago and is yet another chance to honour the late Michael Jackson, who co-wrote the original.
Here’s a little behind the scenes of the recording. The final version is expected to premiere during the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games on February 12th.

Whoa. I’m glad they got together and did that–nice for Haiti and in the name of good ol’ fellowship–but what was up with that cast? Most of those stars were from 40 years ago it felt like. And the beat, and the heavy dose of autotune…I don’t know how put that together but it was lousy from a musical standpoint. Maybe I am just too indie for my own good sometimes.
But no doubt I had to see it, and I thank the Pop Slags kindly for the dual posts on the insanity. Good times indeed!
