Ellie Goulding Ellie Goulding tops BBC Sound of 2010 poll

Ellie Goulding

No great surprises here – folky-synth popper and critics’ darling Ellie Goulding has taken the number one spot on the BBC’s Sound of 2010 poll.

The unassuming 22-year-old has been impressing industry types for a while with her acoustic ditties but was inspired to ‘dance it up’ a bit after hanging out with Frankmusik. It’s a move that seems to have paid off.

The crown was previously held by Little Boots, though it proved to be something of a poisoned chalice as last year’s list also raved about La Roux, Lady GaGa, Florence and the Machine and White Lies, all of whom enjoyed greater success than Boots.

It’ll be interesting to see how Ellie fares this year, but we have a feeling she’ll be bigger than the other artists on the longlist: Daisy Dares You, Delphic, Devlin, The Drums, Everything Everything, Giggs, Gold Panda, Hurts, Joy Orbison, Marina and the Diamonds, Owl City, Rox, Stornaway and Two Door Cinema Club.

There’s some truly awful band names in there, readers. If you’re in a band, our advice would be: ‘For goodness sake don’t have a crap band name.’

Check out Ellie’s ‘Under The Sheets‘ video if you’ve not already – unfortunately we can’t embed it. Boo!
