Oh how creative naming your debut album after your first single. Not that that single was any good. Or this one. That music has been heard before, very pop idol. Take a leaf out of Shakira’s book Esmeé, she sounds very different on each of her albums but keeping the spanish feel. Maybe Miss Denters could benefit from some songs written for her…

I don’t think your points are very fair, Aaron. If you don’t like Esmee then that is one thing – but criticising her for giving the same name to her single & album seems a bit silly; you must surely agree this is common practice for MANY artists of all genres? It’s necessary for the casual fan who remembers songs before the name. If Esmee’s album had a completely random title, would people see it in a shop and think ‘oh that’s the ‘Outta Here’ girl? Not necessarily.

As for Shakira – she’s great – obviously – but she is a very different artist, at a very different stage in her career. She may have tried her hand at different things with each record, but how would you have known she would do that based solely on her debut? How can one do that with any artist, for that matter?

It’s kinda funky, sort of old school R&B. I’m talking R&B in the years 2002-2005 when R&B was commercial but not as fused with pop as it is now. To me that’s the golden age of the genre. Its cool though, I’m glad Esmée is avoiding the whole electropop thing that’s going on now. But she sounds very American on this track. Isn’t she Dutch?

  • Geraint

Yes she is Dutch – you should hear her talking English though, she sounds 100% American!
