The Scissor Sister’s fourth studio album ‘Magic Hour‘ will be with us next month (28th May 2012). We’re really feeling their new single ‘Only The Horses’ (out 14th May), and although ‘Shady Love’ was a little quirky, we get the feeling this album will be a lot of fun.
For the new album, the band have been working a diverse list of new collaborators, such as Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, Diplo, Alex Rihda [BoysNoize] and Azealia Banks. The album was recorded over the past year in New York and London.

    Tracklist:
    1. Baby Come Home
    2. Keep Your Shoes On
    3. Inevitable
    4. Only The Horses
    5. Year of Living Dangerously
    6. Let’s Have a Kiki
    7. Shady Love
    8. San Luis Obispo
    9. Self Control
    10. Best in Me
    11. The Secret Life of Letters
    12. Somewhere
    13. Ms. Matronic’s Magic Message
    14. F*** Yeah (BONUS TRACK)
    15. Let’s Have a Kiki – DJ Nita remix (BONUS TRACK)
    16. F*** Yeah – Seamus Haji remix (BONUS TRACK)

And here's the video for 'Only The Horses'.

Haha I love it.. That is the campest thing I've heard in ages.. I was afraid they were going to go down the sex avenue like they did with Nightwork.. This is great though!!

'Only The Horses' entered the UK charts at #12 today. Should have been a lot higher.

Yes I think that's bad news for them - and it was a really low-selling week apparently. Not to mention that it was a Calvin Harris production, I'm sure their label won't be happy. Maybe the album will pull things back for them...

...also, is it just that their core fanbase has dwindled, or is this a sign that the Calvin Harris sound has jumped the shark?

Its a disgrace its so low. I think they've become a niche act that may sell a decent number of albums to a more mature audience. The buzz about them with a younger crowd that were more likely to buy singles has gone. Its like when Pet Shop Boys moved into a different sphere in early 90s. But what is differnt here is the speed with which SS have shifted into a different market size- PSB had mega hits for about 5 years. All of SS albums have been fantastic and there have been no gaps to lose momentum. I think the music buying market has got more conservative. Personally I don't think its a failing of Calvin Harris as, to me anyway, it doesn't sound very Calvin Harris. I'd be really interested to see interview or speak to someone involved in the marketing of thesingle. I just don't understand the music market of today sufficiently to come to a reasoned view. Maybe number 12 is as per plan? Very very unlikely! Just like Saturdays at 7. Uh-oh.

The Scissor Sisters are amazing live, and guess what they've just announced their UK tour dates in support of their new album Magic Hour.

Tickets go on sale from May 25 at 9am. A pre-sale will take place on the group’s official website from 9am on May 24.
Scissor Sisters’ 2012 tour dates are as follows:
    • October 1 – Olympia, Dublin
    • October 2 – Waterfront, Belfast
    • October 15 – Guildhall, Portsmouth
    • October 16 – O2 Academy, Leeds
    • October 19 – Barrowlands, Glasgow
    • October 20 – Apollo, Manchester
    • October 22 – Colston Hall, Bristol
    • October 25 – Roundhouse, London
I was hoping they would do a Halloween one off. I saw them back in 2004 and it was so much fun to see everyone dressed up as well as the Scissor Sisters. Jake was dressed up as Frankenstein and Ana Matronic doubled up as the Bride of Frankenstein. Some good snaps here:

I've got this album on the download now so I'll have a listen shortly. As much as I like Scissor Sisters, I've always found their albums to be really hit and miss apart from the debut so I'm hoping for a real belter this time. I do think they should be much more popular than they are.

I went to see them as the Glasgow Barrowland just as 'Comfortably Numb' was climbing the charts; I'd heard plenty about the bouncing floor in the venue and got to experience it during their show. It was a brilliant night. I went to see them at the SECC when Ta Dah came out but had a massive argument with my sister and stormed off in a huff, missing the whole thing. Oh well.

Really don't like it. Gimmicky and overtly "cool" such that e.g. Lorraine Kelly tweets about it thinking she's got finger on the pulse but doesn't buy the fucking music as she actually hates it. "Chorus" is repeated monotone of "Lets Have a Kiki" - reminds me of those old Russian women on Eurovision where the "chorus" was "Come on and dance" repeated in a monotone. Bleurgh!

Inevitable and Sometimes are both great IMO. Not overly struck on Only The Horses -- it's a bit nothingy to my ears. But again, it's another patchy album. No wonder their fanbase is slowly dwindling.

Self Control is rather enjoyable during a run I must say.

Shame it's not the Laura Branigan cover though :)

Oh no they didn't!? Well, someone did by mashing up Madonna's classic 'Vogue' with the Scissor Sister's track 'Let's Have a Kiki'. Both are equally camp, so lock the doors, lower the blinds, fire up a smoke machine and put on your heals, cos I know exactly what we need. Let's have a Kiki!

Not completely unexpected, but Scissor Sisters have announced an indefinite hiatus.

It's a shame, but let's hope they'll be back soon. And we'd like to see Ana on a talent show. Maybe The Voice?

They have just announced a data on Mexico City for the 13th of December. It seems it will be one of the final dates before the hiatus. It's is great because it will actually be the first time they perform in Mexico City.
