We've been going on about Spotify how amazing it is (it's basically like iTunes, but you don't download the songs, you stream them. And in exchange you listen to a radio ad every now and again). Well, their beta is now open to everyone in the UK, so make sure you sign up now and revel in their amazing catalogue!

    You'll love it.

I just found this great application to work alongside Sportify: Airfoil. If you are an owner of Apple's AirTunes adapter (a little wifi device that hooks up to your stereo and streams your iTunes songs), you might have wondered why Spotify doesn't connect to it. It's probably something to do with Apple.

Anyway, Airfoil allows you to stream any audio stream to your Airport (QuickTime; great for movies, Real Player, Spotify, even games if you want to). The test drive version allows you to try it for 10 minutes. The licensed version is around £22. A little expensive (£10 would have been much better price!), but totally worth it, if you are a Spotify junkie.

    Give it a go: http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/

And here's a video of a Spotify iPhone application in action:

Does anyone have an idea where you can download the app? Would be great to listen to streaming music on the go (if you're not on the underground).

And here's another handy add-on for Spotify in Firefox: Spotify Search. When you search the web, and see a song title or artist, right click the name and select 'Spotify'. This will open Spotify with search results for that song or artist. Clever!

Spotify announced a deal with 7Digital to allow consumers to click-to-buy more than 6 million tracks from the site. Move over Apple.

    From TechnoCloud.com:

Spotify’s new UK MD, Paul Brown, was interviewed just a day into the job by Paid Content UK. Whether a brave or foolish thing to do on your first day, he did have some interesting things to say about the service.

While careful not to reveal numbers, he strongly hinted that the much rumoured Spotify iPhone application would be a premium service as a way to drive paid subscribers in conjunction with access to rare archive material.

“Portability is something we’re looking at - if you get a great execution on a range of portable devices, I think there will be a proportion of the population that will pay for that.”

Given the ease of the payment model of the App Store, many Spotify users would be willing to pay a reasonable price for a premium app in order to stream music on-demand, particularly if they can access their playlists and stream albums.

This would be an improvement over the one-song-at-a-time YouTube application whose catalogue is currently limited by disputes with the music industry or the limited Last.fm artist radio service on their iPhone app.

It's official, Spotify have created an iPhone app!

It's currently with Apple, who test all applications before they appear in the App Store. So it's not confirmed they will allow it (I believe Apple declined Opera, an alternative web browser, as it was too similar to Safari, i.e. too much competition).

Mind you, the service is likely to be paid for:

Spotify has two services: a free service supported by advertising; and a premium service that allows users to listen to ad-free streams for £9.99 a month.

The iPhone application will be restricted to Spotify's premium users. Some iPhone applications such as voice over internet service Skype are restricted to only working on Wi-Fi, but the Spotify application will work over Wi-Fi and also 3G mobile phone data networks.
