It looks like Toni Braxton’s comeback is shifting up a gear. New song ‘Get Loose’, rumoured to be the first single from her new album, has surfaced today. The upbeat Darkchild produced song, takes some cues from Brandy’s ‘Right Here (Departed)’, but shows a poppy side to Toni not seen since her 1999 ‘The Heat’ album.

With the rumoured writing team to include Darkchild, The Writing Camp, Claude Kelly and RedOne, Toni’s comeback could very well turn out to be more commercially focused and embracing pop(ier) sounds. Yay!

Toni Braxton will make a comeback in 2009!

Toni Braxton
is finally making a comeback! First track to surface from her as-yet-untitled-album, is ‘Melt (Like An Iceberg)’. No, this song is not about global warming, it’s one of Braxton’s usual topics; passion. It’s a good song, but not exciting enough to make the impact her comeback needs.

ToniBraxtonWeb reports the executive producer team for Toni’s new album include Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas. The production duo previously collaborated with Toni on the tracks “Supposed to Be” [co-written by Keri Hilson], “Finally” [co-written by Durrell “Tank” Babbs] and “I Wanna Be Your Baby” [co-written by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds].

Other musicians backing Braxton on the as-yet-untitled project are Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins (Michael Jackson, Beyonce Knowles), The Writing Camp: Evan “Kidd” Bogart, Erika “E-Nuri” Nuri & David “DQ” Quinones (Britney Spears, Christina Milian), Soulshock & Karlin: Carsten Schack and Kenneth Karlin (Keyshia Cole, Mary J. Blige), Claude Kelly (Brandy, Whitney Houston) and Nadir ‘RedOne’ Khayat (Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias).

Atlantic Records hopes to have music out by Braxton in early 2009.

It's nice to see Brandy deliver a simple and clean video for her comeback single 'Right Here (Departed)'. Could there be a 'human' theme to this video?

Pop Kitty crawl the webKitty has been away for a bit - but she’s back, back, BACK! Did you miss her? She missed you.
Here are the latest headlines from the pop blogosphere:

10 years ago, Madonna recorded a cover of Abba’s ‘Like an Angel Passing Through my Room’ with the brilliant William Orbit.
This sounds great in theory, but it never made the cut during the ‘Ray of Light/Music’ era – and perhaps for a reason. Some kind soul has finally let it out of the bag, but we’re sad to report that it actually is just a tad underwhelming. [Hard Candy Music] Fun for fans though:

Beverly Hills 90210 has a very belated follow-up series, simply entitled ‘90210’.  Imaginative, eh? Shannon Doherty (Brenda) and Jennie Garth (Kelly) will be returning to the halls of West Beverly Hills High…presumably as teachers. [Pop Crunch]

More news on Brandy’s comeback album. It’s called ‘Human’. We want another ‘Never Say Never’, or ‘What About Us’ please. FYI, new buzz track ‘Right Here’ is very promising indeed. [Rap Up]

…and speaking of Brandy, Monica (the other one from ‘The Boy Is Mine’) is trying to claw her way back into the spotlight as well.  As always, she’s failing to quite keep up with Brandy - it’s a bit too street, and street is over. It’s all about electro R&B these days, innit.  Well, it certainly is at WAPS towers, anyway. [Hard Candy Music]

Brandy - Right Here, new single

At the end of last year, Brandy had been completely cleared of charges against her in that deadly 2006 car crash. Finally being able to move on, she went back into the studio to pick up the pieces of her recording career.

After her escapade with Timbaland on last record ‘Afrodisiac’, she’s now back with trusted partner Darkchild (well, at least on this track).  That might explain why first single ‘Right Here (Departed)’ is reminiscent of her old piano-style ballads (‘The Boy is Mine’ era), but laid over a mid-tempo chunky beat. She probably read the ‘Mariah Carey Manual to Revival’, as she’s sticking to what she’s good at.

The song is quite pleasant and full of hope. Could she be signing about the whole car crash after-math? Anyway, welcome back Brandy.

Update:The launch of Doll Domination has been delayed by a week and will now be released on September 22nd (UK) 23rd in the US.
Image

The Pussycat Dolls will be back with their second album ‘Doll Domination’, scheduled for release on September 15th (UK) and 16th (US).  The album will feature songs produced by Timbaland, Danja, Darkchild and Fernando Garibay (among others). To promote the album, the girls will embark on a world tour in March/April 2009, and are rumoured to be joined by Girlicious as their supporting act.

We’re not entirely sure about the album title ‘Doll Domination’, it sounds too similar to ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’ by me-too band ‘Danity Kane’.

Britney Spears
Anyone for a Frap?
It’s Wednesday, half way through the week. If that didn’t cheer you up, perhaps the news Britney is indeed recording a new album will.  According to a statement from her manager Larry Rudolph and label Jive Records, she will be “spending her summer in the recording studio” working "with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters".  Read the full report on Billboard.
