Leona Lewis might be a bit dull in a world dominated by Britneys, Beyonces and Rihannas, but she does deliver the goods. Here’s Lewis’ new video for ‘Run’, taken from the deluxe edition of debut album Spirit.

Which version will you be playing on your iPod; the original by Snow Patrol (2003) or Leona Lewis (2008)?

Quite a few UK pop acts have been building up some buzz in America this year. So we thought it would be fair to show you how English comedian Katy Brand interprets their style and talent.

Last weekend, Leona Lewis silenced any remaining doubters with a spell-binding X Factor performance of her Snow Patrol cover, ‘Run’.

The song was expected to be made available as a single this week, but UK fans were left disappointed when the song failed to appear anywhere in legitimate digital or physical format. Currently, the only way to obtain the song legally is it purchase the deluxe re-issue of Leona’s Spirit album.

Some have speculated that Leona’s label decided to withhold the single at the eleventh hour in order to bolster sales of Spirit.

A little birdie tells us that Spirit is due to jump over 100 places to number 2 on the album chart this Sunday, so it’s safe to say the plan seems to have worked.

Staying true to her bi-polar single release disorder, Beyonce will simultaneously release ‘Halo’ and ‘Ego’. Check out the new singles, isn’t ‘Halo’ amazing?

Halo
Leona Lewis was rumoured to be too busy to record this song, which didn’t please Simon Cowell. We prefer Beyonce any day.

Ego
Matthew Knowles has hinted a version of Ego featuring Kanye Wes t could be on the cards.

Oh, it’s been a busy day in the world of pop. Leona’s found time to record two new songs for the re-release of her debut album ‘Spirit’ and a video for one of them has surfaced today: new single ‘Forgive Me’.  Presumably they’ve spruced up ‘Spirit’ in a bid to ensnare any remaining Americans who dare to doubt The Power of Leona.

‘Forgive Me’ is an upbeat, mid-90s sounding track – but it’s no ‘Bleeding Love’. The song was produced by Akon and ‘Misses Glass’ and will be released on October 27th.

Don’t you think the look she’s sporting in the video is similar to Jordan’s?

The nominations for the 2008 MOBO Awards have been announced. It’s nice to see the UK being represented in a more balanced: Estelle has been nominated in 5 categories, while Leona Lewis is up for 3. The show will be held at Wembley Arena on 15 October and will be hosted by Mel B and Rev Run (from Run DMC).

Last night saw the 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards held at Paramount Studios, Hollywood. In order of most anticipated / amazing, here are WAPS’ highlights:
•    Britney Spears didn’t perform, but did win 3 VMAs for her ‘Piece of Me’ video.  Amazingly,  these are the first Moonmen Britney has ever taken home. See her opening sketch with Superbad actor Jonah Hill here.

•   Pink delivered an explosive performance of new single ‘So What’, which was actually even better than the official video.

•    Christina Aguilera was another show-stealer.  Her segment kicked off with an electro version of ‘Genie in a Bottle’, and was immediately followed by a superhero performance of ‘Keeps Getting’ Better’. It’s a shame she was lip-synching, but who knew she was such a good dancer? Her new fringe and electropop sound makes her a carbon copy of Lady Gaga though.  From now on she is known as Christina AguaGaGa.

•    Leona Lewis showed off her crazy voice opening Lil Wayne’s performance.

•    Katy Perry sang a bit of Like a Virgin and Miley Cyrus single handily murdered Like a Prayer.  Why god, why?
•    Rihanna came rolling on to the stage for ‘Disturbia’ and managed to work in a bit of ‘Seven Nation Army’ by the White Stripes. Is it 2003 again already? Great performance, but her vocals were all over the place…

'Just Stand Up' is an American charity single in aid of cancer research.  It features approximately 90% of all the current American divas you can care to imagine, plus a couple of Brits for good measure (Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis).

As part of a live telethon many of the women came together to perform the track yesterday – and rather nice it was too.  We can't criticise a cancer single!

WAPS will say, however, that when Beyonce appeared at the beginning (with her mad new hair), we thought it was Kelis for a moment. See the live performance of Just Stand Up here:

Thank goodness, the Olympics are finally over and we can focus on pop music again. We enjoyed looking at some of the male gymnasts, but other than that we didn’t really care.

London will be hosting the Olympics in 2012 (you might have heard about this), so UK representatives Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page appeared at the Beijing closing ceremony for a saucy duet. Rather rocky for songbird Leona.  And doesn’t Page actually look kind of Chinese these days?

Watch out for the AMAZING digital umbrellas. Rihanna must be absolutely furious for not thinking of that first.
