Last week she gave us a sneak preview, today sees the full release of Rihanna's new video 'Rehab' featuring Justin Timberlake.

Staggeringly, ‘Rehab’ is Rihanna’s eighth hit single from her ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ album, a feat only recently matched by Shania Twain, who had eight hits from the mega-selling ‘Come On Over’ between 1997 and 1999.

Here’s a summary of Rihanna’s US success - which does not even include her current hit ‘Live Your Life’ with TI.

“Umbrella,” No. 1 for seven weeks (2007) [Rihanna featuring Jay-Z]
“Shut Up and Drive,” No. 15 (2007)
“Hate That I Love You,” No. 7 (2007) [Rihanna featuring Ne-Yo]
“Don’t Stop the Music,” No. 3 (2008)
“Take a Bow,” No. 1 for one week (2008)
“If I Never See Your Face Again,” No. 51 (2008) [Maroon 5 featuring Rihanna]
“Disturbia,” No. 1 for two weeks (2008)
“Rehab,” No. 91 to date (new) (2008)

It’s been a while since the ‘Fantasy Ride’ announcement back in May, so we thought it’d be time for a little update on Ciara. The album has been pushed back to December, with Ciara now going back to the studio to add the finishing touches (translation: the label ordered her to go back and record a hit). Here’s a clip of Ciara working on the Danja produced ‘Work’ - sounds perfect for one of her trademark dance routines.

There’s also a rumour floating around that Ciara has recorded a duet with Rihanna called ‘Tears Fall’.

And here are some of the songs that have leaked so far:

Good

»   Echo: great beat.
»   Work : catchy and perfect for the dance floor
»   Keep Dancing ft. The Dream: this is a Tricky ‘Umbrella’ Stewart production. A nice mid tempo song

Meh

»   High Price: Bizarre and quite irritating. Ciara does a crazy opera voice
»   Supernatural: a slow jam. Dull
»   Go-Girl: Distinctly average first single.

Last night CBS aired NYC's 'Fashion Rocks' event, where Rihanna performed a cover of Madonna's  'Vogue'.

She appeared in a sea of feathers (Showgirl-era Kylie would have approved) - however, the performance lacked some of the attitude which made this song famous.

Last night saw the 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards held at Paramount Studios, Hollywood. In order of most anticipated / amazing, here are WAPS’ highlights:
•    Britney Spears didn’t perform, but did win 3 VMAs for her ‘Piece of Me’ video.  Amazingly,  these are the first Moonmen Britney has ever taken home. See her opening sketch with Superbad actor Jonah Hill here.

•   Pink delivered an explosive performance of new single ‘So What’, which was actually even better than the official video.

•    Christina Aguilera was another show-stealer.  Her segment kicked off with an electro version of ‘Genie in a Bottle’, and was immediately followed by a superhero performance of ‘Keeps Getting’ Better’. It’s a shame she was lip-synching, but who knew she was such a good dancer? Her new fringe and electropop sound makes her a carbon copy of Lady Gaga though.  From now on she is known as Christina AguaGaGa.

•    Leona Lewis showed off her crazy voice opening Lil Wayne’s performance.

•    Katy Perry sang a bit of Like a Virgin and Miley Cyrus single handily murdered Like a Prayer.  Why god, why?
•    Rihanna came rolling on to the stage for ‘Disturbia’ and managed to work in a bit of ‘Seven Nation Army’ by the White Stripes. Is it 2003 again already? Great performance, but her vocals were all over the place…

'Just Stand Up' is an American charity single in aid of cancer research.  It features approximately 90% of all the current American divas you can care to imagine, plus a couple of Brits for good measure (Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis).

As part of a live telethon many of the women came together to perform the track yesterday – and rather nice it was too.  We can't criticise a cancer single!

WAPS will say, however, that when Beyonce appeared at the beginning (with her mad new hair), we thought it was Kelis for a moment. See the live performance of Just Stand Up here:

Generically American (but really Irish) chancers The Script decided they wanted to have a slice of the Maroon5 ft. Rihanna pie.  Did the headline give it away?

Rihanna was busy, so instead they teamed up with Kelly ‘Desperate’ Rowland on a cringe-worthy performance of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Part time Lover’, for Channel4’s Transmission.

It is more heinous than you can possibly conceive.

For fucks sake Kelly, you were in Destiny’s Child. Have some dignity woman!

Kardinal Offishall is making a little comeback (after ruining the career of Texas with his rap on Carnival Girl). He recorded 2 versions of his song ‘Tide is High’. One features Rihanna, the other the Pussycat Dolls. Neither version does this Blondie classic justice (they are essentially the same, i.e. terrible). [Rap Up]

Thank goodness, the Olympics are finally over and we can focus on pop music again. We enjoyed looking at some of the male gymnasts, but other than that we didn’t really care.

London will be hosting the Olympics in 2012 (you might have heard about this), so UK representatives Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page appeared at the Beijing closing ceremony for a saucy duet. Rather rocky for songbird Leona.  And doesn’t Page actually look kind of Chinese these days?

Watch out for the AMAZING digital umbrellas. Rihanna must be absolutely furious for not thinking of that first.
