Madonna screened her Wallis Simpson movie ‘W.E.‘ at the Venice Film Festival earlier this week. W.E. looks at the life of the woman that King Edward VIII fell in love in the 1930s. He abdicated the throne so he could marry the divorcee.

The queen of pop sat down with the BBC and said she wanted to reveal the human and vulnerable side of Wallis Simpson in her new film. You can view the interview over at the BBC.

Reviews have been mixed so far, with the Daily Mail praises it “Madonna makes us all fall in love with Mrs Simpson“, The Guardian gives it 1 out of 5 and calls it “Madonna’s jaw-dropping take on the story of Wallis Simpson is a primped and simpering folly, preening and fatally mishandled“, while The Telegraph gives it a reasonable 3 out of five, calling it “A curious notion, and not truly an enticing one. Yet W.E. is rather better than expected; it’s bold, confident and not without amusing moments.

Despite the mixed reviews, will you be watching W.E.?
