We’re slightly underwhelmed by Mariah Carey‘s brand new single, the supposedly Eminem-bashing ‘Obsessed‘.
The song is decent enough – and good on her for playing Em at his own game, if indeed that’s what she’s doing – but we were hoping for a rather more daring sound from Mariah. However, ‘Obsessed’ essentially follows the same urban template showcased on ‘E=MC2”s ‘Migrate’.

I actually really like it. Not amazing or anything, but it’s fairly harmless/bit of a trainwreck.
I am not feeling this at all simple because I hate mid-tempo R&B and auto tune. I do love Mariah but this surely not her best work in this decade.

I dont understand most of it because she uses african american english in most of her songs. Why are her songs specifically made for the african american community and not to a general audience. The song is poorly written. Mariah should get back to her roots and do a Jazz album or something. She always does the same thing over and over. I think after the daydream album, she lost creativity. Everything is the same. Uptempo songs and a few ballads. She needs to create an album with no rap in it. Why is it that her first albums were more successful than her latest. I wonder why. She is not even black to have such a strong inclination to this type of music which I like BTW but it’s not suited for her voice and personality. She is half irish, 25% black and 25% latino. Why does she use a language that only black people can understand? That’s why her music has lost some credibility. Her last album did not even get any grammy nods for being the same type of crap. Mariah reinvent yourself and do something that focuses on vocals, piano, jazz, soul. And change for your own sake.
