Leighton Meester does Christmas

‘Tis that time of year when the same ubiquitous Christmas songs are dusted off and played to death absolutely everywhere, so thank Santa that Leighton Meester decided to bring something semi-new to the table.

The effortlessly cool Gossip Girl star has recorded a charity cover of Darlene Love’s Motown classic ‘Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)’, and as you’d expect her melancholy take is rather more restrained than the original. (FYI, Mariah Carey also had a stab at it once.)

‘Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)’, is featured on ‘A Very Special Christmas 7′ a charity album benefiting the Special Olympics.

Leighton Meester keeps surprising us with her unusual guest appearances. On Saturday she joined indie band Weezer on stage during their Halloween concert at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

We expected a slushy ballad when Leighton Meester tweeted that she was teaming up with Robin Thicke for her debut solo single. But hey presto, our favourite Gossip Girl has recorded yet another dance floor stonker (make sure to check out Body Control and Cobra Starship’s Good Girls Go Bad if you haven’t already done so.)

We’re loving the sound of this ice-cool electroclash duet, though Thicke’s blatant Timberlake-isms are slightly grating.
